President's Message

To our members, visitors, and friends,

On behalf of Charleston Firefighters Local 61, I want to thank you for your continued trust, support, and dedication to our mission. Every day, our firefighters stand ready to protect the lives and property of Charleston’s citizens. But just as important as the work we do for our community is the work we do for one another.

Our Local is committed to enhancing the lives of our members—ensuring that each firefighter has the opportunity for a long, healthy career and the ability to retire with health, dignity, and security. This means advocating for safer staffing, fair wages, stronger benefits, and the resources we need to keep our members both physically and mentally healthy. It also means fighting for policies that protect us not only during our service, but long after we hang up our gear.

From station kitchens to city hall, from fire grounds to board rooms, we are ensuring that every fireman in Charleston has a voice and a future worth fighting for.

South Carolina is not an easy place to be a firefighter. The challenges are real—from demanding hours and rising costs of living to the physical and mental toll of our profession. But we know that with a strong work ethic, a commitment to each other, and meaningful relationships within our community, anything is possible. Together, we can shape a future where every firefighter in Charleston can serve proudly, finish their career strong, and enjoy the well-earned rewards of retirement.

To our visitors and friends—thank you for standing with us. Your support makes a real difference in the lives of the men and women who answer the call, day and night. And to our members—you are the heart of this Local. Your courage, resilience, and unity are what make Charleston Firefighters Local 61 strong.
